Privacy Policy

Who we are

For Us is a private journaling and relationship app for couples. This Privacy Policy applies to the For Us mobile app and website. For Us is operated by Apps For Us, LLC. Questions about privacy or your rights can be submitted through support@theforusapp.com.

Information we collect

  • Account information: your first name and email address.
  • Journal content: the text you write in the app. Journal entries are encrypted at rest.
  • Pairing information: whether you are linked to a partner and the history of invitations sent and accepted.
  • Consent records: the consents you give, including the separate consents described in this Policy, together with the date/time, version, and related record.
  • Timezone: used to make features such as streaks and weekly counts correspond to your local day.
  • Technical information: information needed to operate and secure the service, such as IP address at the time of a request, including for rate limiting, fraud, abuse, and security prevention.
  • Purchase information: subscriptions are processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play. We receive purchase confirmation and relevant transaction identifiers, but do not receive or store your payment-card number.

How we use information

We use information to provide, maintain, secure, and improve For Us; create and manage accounts; pair partners; provide journaling and subscription features; process purchases through the applicable app store; respond to support requests; prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access; comply with legal obligations; and honor the choices and consents you make.

We do not use journal content for advertising. We do not sell consumer health data.

How your journal entries are used

Your raw journal entries are private between you and For Us. Your partner does not receive or see your raw entries through the app. Journal entries are stored encrypted at rest.

For Us may use both partners' journal entries to create a shared session or summary intended for the two partners together. To do this, For Us systems, including automated processing and any service providers used for that processing, may read the text of both partners' entries. Your partner does not receive your raw entry; the purpose is to generate the shared feature.

We obtain a separate, specific consent for this AI-assisted processing, distinct from your general consent to this Policy. Your consent record is maintained with a timestamp and policy/consent version, and you can review your consent choices in account settings where that functionality is available.

How we protect your information

Passwords are hashed rather than stored in plain text. Journal entries are encrypted at rest using a per-account encryption key. Access to systems capable of decrypting entries is limited to what is necessary to operate, secure, support, and maintain the service.

For Us maintains reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information it handles. No security system can guarantee absolute security.

Who we share information with

We may disclose information to service providers that process information on our behalf when needed to operate the app, provide hosting or infrastructure, secure the service, process subscriptions, provide customer support, or perform other functions necessary to provide For Us. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets.

We do not sell consumer health data and do not use consumer health data for advertising.

Data retention and deletion

You may request deletion of your account and data from inside the app or through our data deletion page on www.theforusapp.com. When deletion is requested, the account enters a 30-day grace period during which it is locked and displays only a scheduled-deletion screen with a cancellation option. If you do not cancel during that period, deletion is permanent for the data covered by the deletion request.

Deletion is propagated to processors used to operate the service, subject to limited retention that may be required by law, security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or other legitimate purposes.

Shared session summaries that your partner has already received may remain visible to your partner in an anonymized or otherwise de-identified form if they are retained as a joint record of a session.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live and the laws that apply to you, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, or otherwise control certain personal information. You may also have rights to withdraw consent, object to or restrict certain processing, or appeal a decision concerning a privacy request.

For Us provides an in-app data export that may include your decrypted journal entries, profile information, consent records, and pairing history. An export does not include your partner's raw journal entries.

To exercise a right, contact support@theforusapp.com. We may need to verify your identity before completing certain requests. We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights where prohibited by law.

State privacy rights

Residents of states with comprehensive consumer privacy laws may have additional rights, subject to applicable thresholds, exemptions, and exceptions. These may include rights to know/access, delete, correct, obtain a portable copy, opt out of sale or targeted advertising, limit certain uses of sensitive personal information, and appeal certain decisions.

For Us does not sell consumer health data or use it for advertising.

California residents may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended.

Cross-border processing

For Us may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Where required by applicable law, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers and provide any required notices or consent mechanisms.

Age

For Us is intended for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. The service is not directed to children. If we learn that a person under 18 has created an account, we will take reasonable steps to delete the account and associated information, subject to applicable law.

Cookies and similar technologies

As of August 2026, For Us does not use analytics cookies, advertising pixels, analytics SDKs, crash-reporting SDKs, or other third-party tracking technologies. The website or app may use technologies strictly necessary to operate, secure, authenticate, or remember requested preferences; where such technologies are used, they are not used for third-party advertising or tracking.

International availability

For Us is currently intended to be offered in the United States, Canada, Australia, and South Africa. Additional country-specific requirements may apply based on where the service is offered and where users reside.

Canada

Where PIPEDA or other Canadian privacy law applies, For Us will handle personal information in accordance with applicable requirements, including appropriate safeguards, meaningful consent, access/correction rights, and applicable breach reporting and notification obligations.

Australia

Where the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and Australian Privacy Principles apply, For Us will handle personal information in accordance with those requirements, including applicable rules for overseas disclosures and eligible data-breach notifications.

South Africa

Washington consumer health data

For Washington residents and other users to whom the Washington My Health My Data Act applies, For Us maintains a separate Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy. Consumer health data may include journal content that reveals mental or emotional health information and inferences derived from that content. The separate policy describes applicable collection, sharing, consent, retention, and rights practices.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy when our practices or legal obligations change. If a change is material, we will update the effective date and provide additional notice or obtain consent where required by law. We will not make retroactive material changes to how we use previously collected sensitive information without the consent or other legal basis required by applicable law.
